Friday Happy Hour

TGIF! Crack open the pinot noir - let's get the weekend started! Unless you are Lindsay Lohan, bless her heart. Good to hear she finally went to rehab - let's see if it takes. I'll be rooting for her - unlike some of the other "celebutantes" or whatever you want to call them, IMHO she's got some great acting talent. Also, you can tell from looking at her mom that there are "issues" and her dad's in jail...easier to root for her than for some of her peers.

Interesting to read about the American Idol debate this week - are the auditions too mean? Come on, as opposed to what? The real world? And now that her feud with the Donald is dying down, Rosie has to create drama by picking on Paula Abdul. A tad hypocritical, methinks.

However, as a self confessed AI fan, the stories I enjoy most are the heartwarming ones: the young naval officer serving on the Ronald Reagan, who wins his ship's version of "Reagan Idol," something they drummed up to relieve the boredom of being deployed, and his enthusiasm at making the cut. But my favorite was the camouflage dressed young woman who helps run her family's auto shop business and by helping run, I mean she crawls under the cars and does the work herself. She and her hubby are both reservists, and he is deployed in Iraq. After she made it through the audition there was a clip of her talking to her husband's laminated photo that she always wears around her neck,"next to her heart"  playfully telling it she made it and kissing it for luck. For some reason, it made me tear up. The cringe-worthy moments are just that. Sometimes funny, sometimes not.

For this weekend, we have the documentary Word Play and finally, plan to watch Little Miss Sunshine. I think I will be the last person on the blog to see it. Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Quote for Today

The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out.  Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture.  Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it."  --Dee Hock

Thursday Happy Hour

Ah, Little Friday! All the better since I am headed to New Mexico tomorrow for a conference. Yep, New Mexico in the summer. DH is going and hopefully we will be able to have some fun. Speaking of DH, trying to decide if he is a "retrosexual." Watching breakfast TV this am, saw a segment with the Daily Candy Chix and the editor from one of the men's mags. Topic was that the metrosexual is no longer cool. There has been a throwback towards "real" manly men. So, not Jude Law but Russel Crowe. Of course, as is my responsibility as a chix, I googled it, cuz I didn't see the entire segment and don't know which channel aired it. I got 527 hits, one being a cool site called "Word Spy."

See, that's how I find this stuff and waste time at work. One thing leads to another and I am riddled with ADD. I already forgot what I was writing about. ANYWAY, Word Spy sez "Genuine guys are sometimes known as retrosexuals, to distinguish them from metrosexuals, who are men with the good taste of gay men, only they're straight. Metrosexuals are scrupulous about their grooming and are great consumers of men's cosmetic products. They use hair gel. Retrosexuals are scared of hair gel. Some people think that retrosexuals automatically have Neanderthal views about women, but this is not the case. A retrosexual is simply someone who doesn't know the difference between teal and aqua, and frankly couldn't give a damn." What do you think?

You may notice some new feeds on the blog. You must check out the hive, it is really cool! Typepad, which hosts this blog, has added some new features and I am trying them out. Feedback, please! Some of the technology is beyond my skill set, so I am learning while experimenting. OK, that's it for today. Hope all of you are well and will post while I am gone! Or tag something for the Hive. Here is a picture of where I will be
